The history of the track in Australia is very much the story of Australia itself. No other enterprise captures the social, cultural and political life of our country like horse racing does - the love of the theatre that is gambling, the fascination with the possibility that lives can change overnight, the importance of heroes in our lives, the role of the horse in the country's development and the way the Australian language has been inspired by the world's most fluent and colourful race callers.
